If you walked down the streets, you would have thought Guatemala was playing in the final. There were people selling Spain flags and hats on every corner, and people everywhere were wearing red and yellow with face paint and everything. After church, we walked down a main street and through a plaza where hundreds of people were on stands and watching the game on huge screens. We each got a mango with lemon, salt, and chiles from a little street vendor, and we sat on a bench in the park watching all the activity. I felt like I was in Bolivia again. :) Then it started pouring rain so we went into a Pollo Campero and watched the game there. The restaurant was packed with Spain fans....all the waiters were standing in front of the TV and even the policemen outside had their faces against the window to watch. Personally, I wanted Holanda...Netherlands to win, but I guess I was a little outnumbered. Only my "brother" Eric was going for Holanda too...But when Spain scored their goal everyone in the restaurant exploded and cheered. It was a happy day here. They even got pizza and ice cream at the house to celebrate.
Tonight it is pouring rain again. For the last few days, the mornings have been nice but in the afternoon there is thunder and the rain really comes down!! Martha and Danilo, one of her foster boys, just got home from the store and walked in the house completely drenched.
Well, everything is going really well...this week I might be taking a trip to Honduras with Joel and Liz and the other interns. It isn't quite confirmed yet.
